The Powerful Gospel

2021 08 22

Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV)  The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

Seven-Fold Spirit of God

  1. Spirit of the Lord
    • is the supernatural power source that creates God’s Thoughts in our hearts.
  2. Spirit of Wisdom
    • is all of God’s supernatural Thoughts themselves.
  3. Spirit of Understanding
    • is God’s personal illumination of those thoughts.
  4. Spirit of Counsel
    • is God’s personal instructions for Godly choices.
  5. Spirit of Strength
    • is God’s supernatural ability to perform those Thoughts in our lives.
  6. Spirit of Knowledge
    • is seeing God’s Thoughts manifested in our life actions.
  7. Fear of the Lord
    • is walking in God’s Love and Truth, fleeing anything that would quench His Spirit.

The Redemption of the tongue

James 3:8 (NKJV)  But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Luke 6:45 (NKJV)  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The Mind of Christ

Isaiah 45:11 (NKJV)  Thus says the LORD, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.

1 Corinthians 2:13-16 (NKJV) 13  These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15  But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16  For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

  • Taming of the tongue is impossible for a mere carnal/natural man.

1 Corinthians 3:3 (NKJV)  for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

  • Taming of the tongue is possible only for a spiritual man
  • Instruct God – Communication based on relationship
  • Authorizing God to move in this realm/world, which still remains under the domain of the evil one.
  • Through humans
  • Prayers, petitions. For those in authority, with thanksgiving

Confession of Faith

Dear Heavenly Father, please give me a revelation of the power of the Gospel today. Enable me to understand what salvation truly is and how You’ve provided everything that I need as a free gift through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Please enlighten me to these truths from Your Word, which I will be taught today.

I declare that I will be free from guilt, condemnation, and a performance mentality. I declare that I abide in faith, abound in hope, I keep myself in the love of God. I will overcome all trials, I will persevere, and develop Christ-like character by His power.

From this day forward, may Your grace be the foundation of my daily relationship with You. Amen.

Power of God

1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NKJV)  For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

2 Timothy 1:8 (NKJV)  Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,

  • The Gospel is the power of God
  • Through man initially
  • Man empowered by God beats Satan at his game, with his rules.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

  • To forgive

John 20:22-24 (NKJV) 22  And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23  If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” 24  Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.

  • To bring fire
  • You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save (Luke 9:52-53)

Luke 9:53-56 (NKJV) 53  But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54  And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” 55  But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56  For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.

  • To kill
  • The Anointing from God
  • Ananias & Sapphira
  • Herod

Acts 5:1-11 (NKJV) 1  But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2  And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3  But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4  While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5  Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6  And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7  Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8  And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.” 9  Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10  Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. 11  So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.

  • To punish
  • Those who oppose the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Acts 13:6-12 (NKJV) 6  Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7  who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9  Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him 10  and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? 11  And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12  Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

  • Hand over to Satan
  • Not emotional but based on principles of Jesus’ commands

1 Corinthians 5:4-5 (NKJV) 4  In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5  deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

  • Judge angels
  • Hearts and minds set on ages, not on this age/world

1 Corinthians 6:3 (NKJV)  Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?

The Gospel Is God’s Power:

Romans 10:6-10 (NKJV) 6  But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ “ (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7  or, ” ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ “ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8  But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9  that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  • The Cat
  • You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save (Luke 9:52-53)
  • Give life and save through the Gospel
  • The almost too good to be true news about the grace given to us by Jesus the Christ
  • We have the power
  • To produce the new birth (1Pet. 1:23).

1 Peter 1:23 (NKJV)  having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,

  • To give salvation (Rom. 1:16; Eph. 1:13).

Romans 1:16 (NKJV)  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Ephesians 1:13 (NKJV)  In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

  • To impart grace (Acts 20:24).

Acts 20:24 (NKJV)  But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

  • To establish people in the faith (Rom. 16:25).

Romans 16:25 (NKJV)  Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began

  • To generate faith (Rom. 10:17).

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  • To set free (Jn. 8:31-36).

John 8:31-36 (NKJV) 31  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” 33  They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?” 34  Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35  And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

  • To nourish spiritual life (1Pet. 2:2).

1 Peter 2:2 (NKJV)  as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

  • To cleanse (Eph. 5:26).

Ephesians 5:26 (NKJV)  that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

  • To search thoughts and intents of life (Heb. 4:12).

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

  • To make partakers of Christ (Eph. 3:6).

Ephesians 3:6 (NKJV)  that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,

  • To impart immortality (2Tim. 1:10).

2 Timothy 1:10 (NKJV)  but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

  • To bring peace (Rom. 10:15).

Romans 10:15 (NKJV)  And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

  • To give protection (Eph. 6:17).

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV) 10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints–

  • To give fullness of blessings (Rom. 15:29).

Romans 15:29 (NKJV)  But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

Power of your words

James 3:2-12 (NKJV) 2  For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3  Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4  Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5  Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7  For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8  But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9  With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11  Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12  Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

Luke 6:45 (NKJV)  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Angels

Hebrews 1:14 (NKJV)  Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

  • For and not “to”

Acts 12:21-24 (NKJV) 21  So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22  And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23  Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. 24  But the word of God grew and multiplied.
