***Please note that this was written in 1912 BEFORE Israel became a nation***
Israel is the most prominent theme of the Bible, taking up four fifths of its pages. Only this people out of all the nations had its history written in advance, Deut. 28, 30. They are remarkable for their antiquity, their influence, and their preservation during centuries of persecution.
Descended from Abraham through Isaac and Jacob, Israel was chosen by God to reveal Him, to produce the Bible and to bring the Saviour to men. After being given Palestine by divine decree, Gen. 15:7, they occupied it for hundreds of years, then were taken captive, Jer. 25:11, and eventually were scattered over the face of the earth, Luke 21:24.
The present world dispersion will end when He who scattered them regathers them, Jer. 31:10. After large numbers of unbelieving Jews have returned to their land, Zech. 12:9-14, and suffered great tribulation, Jer. 30:1-7, they will be delivered by their Messiah as He returns to the earth, Zech. 14:1-3. He will then restore all Israel to the land, Deut. 30:1-3; Ezek. 39:28, bless and rule them from His throne in Jerusalem, Jer. 3:17.
During the present age when the nation Israel has been set aside for rejecting Christ, Rom. 11:15, individual Jews are being saved as God gathers out a people for His name from all mankind, Acts 15:14-17.
