The thousand years during which Christ is to rule the world is popularly known as the millennium. As to where it belongs in the program of God, the discredited postmillennial view placed it before the physical return of Christ to the earth. The amillennial view rejects the literal meaning of the Bible text. The premillennial view accepts kingdom prophecies as literal, placing the return of Christ before the millennium is established.
This will be earth’s golden age, when all of God’s promises concerning His future kingdom will be fulfilled. It is described in the largest body of prophecy still unfulfilled Creation will be liberated, Rom. 8:18-23. The curse will be lifted, Isa. 11:6-9; 35:5, 6. The earth will be fruitful, Amos 9:13. Wars cease, Psa. 46:9, as the devil and his demons are imprisoned, Isa. 24:21, 22; Rev. 20:1-3. The Lord is king over all the earth, Zech. 14:9; Luke 1:32, 33, and believers reign with Him, 2 Tim. 2:12; Rev. 5:10.
The millennium is to endure for 1000 years, Rev. 20:4-6. As it begins, all wicked people will be cast out, Matt. 13:41-43; but as it ends, a final rebellion precedes the dawn of eternity, Rev. 20:7-21:5. Matt. 5-7 is widely regarded as the constitution of the coming kingdom, which is thought to be identical with the kingdom of heaven.
