Revelation – Part 5

Revelation 1

Part 5

1 Corinthians 14:8 (NKJV) For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle?

· Salvation / Flesh

Revelation 1:12-20 (NKJV) 12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.
14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire;
15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters;
16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
19 Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.
20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.

Eight-fold description of Christ:
1. His body was clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded with golden girdle (Rev. 1:13; cp. Dan. 10:6).

2. His hair was white like wool and snow (Rev. 1:14; Dan. 7:9).

3. His eyes were as a flame of fire (Rev. 1:14; 19:12; Dan. 10:6; cp. Heb. 4:12).

4. His feet were like fine brass (Rev. 1:14; 10:1; Dan. 10:6).

5. His voice like many waters (Rev. 1:14; 8:5; 10:2-4; 11:15; 14:2; 16:17-18; 19:6; Ps. 29; Heb. 12:26; Dan. 10:6).

6. His right hand held seven stars, which were the messengers of the seven churches (Rev. 1:20).

7. His mouth had a two-edged sword coming out of it (Rev. 1:16; 2:12,16; 19:15,21; cp. Eph. 6:17; Heb. 4:12).

8. His countenance shone like the sun (Rev. 1:16; 10:1; Dan. 10:6).

V18 “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore”. This identifies the person to be Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:1-23 (NKJV) 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you–unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up–if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
Colossians 2:14-17 (NKJV) 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
Ephesians 2:14-15 (NKJV) 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,
John 21:14 (NKJV) This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

The bright morning star

20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.

John had seen Jesus Christ in a similar glorified state at His transfiguration (Mt 17:2), and he had seen His resurrection body after He was raised, until the ascension (Jn 20; Ac 1:2-11).

In this vision, the veil was lifted, and John saw the One he had known in the flesh. Even though John had been as close as any of the disciples to Jesus, John had not begun to comprehend the majesty of the One with whom he had walked during Jesus’ three years of ministry.

The impact of Jesus’ appearance was overwhelming.

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not remain in darkness.

John 12:46
