Sin and Sickness
Sickness is caused by the fall of man.
- As sin is the result of the fall, so is sickness and disease
Sickness is no more because of the fall than sin is.
God had made all things very good.
- Both sin and sickness came into the world through the fall of the human race.
The healing of both is provided in the redemption of humankind.
- Therefore, the remedy for both sin and sickness is to be found in Jesus the Christ.
- Isaiah 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
- Borne our griefs = sicknesses
- Carried our sorrows = pains
- The Lord’s table. Body=Bread=Healing. Blood=Forgiveness
The will of God includes health and includes healing.
- faith comes by hearing the word
- be prepared to be challenged by the word
- be prepared to let the word go to work in your life
- consider it meditate on it
Goodness of God.
- Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
- Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
So, it is our heart that changes, leaks.
It is our mind that we have to keep renewed in God’s word
Some years back, I taught on the parable of the seed in Matthew 13
- About our heart needing to be good fertile ground
- Matthew 13:3–9 3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The concept of conception and birthing of a human baby
- Conception (now) of either the promise of God or the lie of the enemy: bearing fruit.
Sin is born from a conception that takes place in your heart
- So when desire or lust has conceived it gives birth to sin and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death
So, conception takes place now
- when we allow something into our heart
- and we give it place we give it a ground
- and if we give it a place in our heart
- and something is conceived
- In the case of lust, it conceives and gives birth to a baby called sin and sin when it is fully developed, it enters into or takes you into the death cycle or into loss and corruption in your life.
- John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
- The thief>Sin>The fallen human nature
- James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
God cannot be tempted or tested by evil nor does he himself tempt or test any one with sickness
- Sickness is evil is not from God
- Sickness steals kills and destroys
- God is not using sickness to perfect you
- He sent the word to teach and perfect you
- He sent the spirit to lead you into all truth
It is God’s will that I’m healed.
- Lie that His will is not available/accessible to me, because I’m not healed.
- I had been there, done that.
- Maybe that would not have changed if I got healed when someone prayed.
- I’m not saying that it is not possible, still.
- I even wanted someone who would agree with me in what the Lord had promised.
- That didn’t work either.
- My humility/submissiveness was being misunderstood,
- Maybe I didn’t find the right person. Spooky half-truths, no fruit.
- What I’m saying is that I am learning to be more grounded and rooted in the Word
- Colossians 2:6–7 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
- Then Faith will rise – Word became flesh
- Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
- Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
When the Lord says now, then at His command, by faith I will launch out into the deep.
- Luke 5:4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
- The Lord must be recognized as our healer.
It is difficult to be spiritual when we are bombarded with everything natural.
- Even in Christian circles, being guided by emotions, feel-good Gospel?
- Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
- Training our mind. (E.g. Brian army)
- Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
- Community, fellowship. Do not isolate, it is dangerous.
- Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
- No compromise, absolutely no tolerance for sin in any form.
- 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
- We need authenticity, reality
- We need to renew our mind in the word of God
- Conception (now), train our mind.
- We need to surround ourselves with people rooted in the Word
- Or we will panic, and give up
Make the commitment to the habits that bring and sustain spiritual maturity (taught in 2012):
- – Time with God’s Word renewing our mind.
- – Prayer – Supplication & using authority.
- – Christian Fellowship
- – Sacrificial Giving
Judgment Seat of Christ
- Romans 14:10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
- 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
- judgment seat=bēma – for believers
- judge= krinō
- John 19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
- judgment seat of Christ for believers vs white throne Judgment of God based on the book of life
- Throne vs judgment seat
No Condemnation for the fall if we believe in Jesus Christ
- John 3:14–18 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- Condemned = Krino =to judge
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
- Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
- No Judgment for whoever believes in Jesus.
All judgment
- John 5:22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
- John 5:26–27 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
- Hebrews 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
- Revelation 20:11–15 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
- were judged = krino
- Throne = thronos
- 2 thrones 1 of God, 1 of Jesus Christ
- Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
- We are nothing without Christ.
Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness
- Numbers 21:8–9 8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
- The “type” of Christ could not mean more to those Israelites than Christ Himself means to us today.
- Israel, through only a “type” of Christ, could not receive blessings
- which we cannot receive today through Christ Himself.
- The people cried to God then, and He heard their cry and provided a remedy-the serpent lifted up.
- Those who cry to God today discover that He has heard their cry and has provided a remedy-Christ lifted up.
- John 12:32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
- 1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
