Exodus 17:2 NKJV Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?”
This resonates with me in that I did not believe that I ought to shepherd God’s people, but when I saw His calling blesses others, I stepped into this by faith in Christ Jesus. Then when people come to me with what they perceive as the Lord’s shortcomings, I ask myself the same question.
Before, during such occasions, I used to ask myself how it was my problem? As if God or I somehow were responsible for the mess they are in. Now, all I do is forward it to the Lord in prayer. I find that this yields results. Prayer works!
Exodus 17:12 NKJV But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
As iron sharpens iron ( Proverbs 27:17), I’ve learned that no man is an island, that I need others to sharpen my countenance. From people who pray for us to just having trustworthy company in the Lord, we all need a helping hand, we need to belong, and we need to support each other. Never take this for granted.
Exodus 18:24 NKJV So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.
Again I say that these are my thoughts alone, me thinking out loud, or specifically in this case, me wondering if what Moses did was correct? The advice to delegate came from Jethro and not from the Lord. If according to Exodus 18:17 the thing that Moses does was not good for him, would not the Lord who had commissioned Moses know that? Could not He have supernaturally empowered Moses to handle anything?
These join a list of questions I have which I plan to ask when I meet them in person.
