‘I say to you, make friends for yourself by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when you fall short, they may receive you into eternal dwellings.’ Luke 16:9
This does not tell us to be dishonest, and eternal dwellings obviously cannot be their home. So then, what exactly does Jesus mean?Be prudent, be wise, be faithful, and above all, have wisdom from above, worth far more than Rubies. Are we dependable? Can we be trusted? Here is the same passage in the Message Bible. Luke 16:8-9 MSG [8-9] “Now here’s a surprise: The master praised the crooked manager! And why? Because he knew how to look after himself. Streetwise people are smarter in this regard than law-abiding citizens. They are on constant alert, looking for angles, surviving by their wits. I want you to be smart in the same way-but for what is right-using every adversity to stimulate you to creative survival, to concentrate your attention on the bare essentials, so you’ll live, really live, and not complacently just get by on good behavior.”
‘“The Law and the Prophets were preached until John. Since then the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of the law to fail. “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and whoever marries her who is divorced by her husband commits adultery.’ Luke 16:16-18
The Law and the Prophets, the kingdom of God, divorce and re-marriage all in the same thought. There are three topics being discussed here by Jesus, and if you have understanding, Jesus is talking about the same principle. This can only be explained further by me in person, but basically ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.’ ”’ Luke 16:31 carries that thought further.
‘When He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. Then He said to him, “Rise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”’ Luke 17:14,19
In obedience, the healing begins, in giving thanks, we give Glory to God, and shows our faith.
‘Nor will they say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For remember, the kingdom of God is within you.”’ Luke 17:21
The kingdom of God, not Jesus’ second coming.
‘Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. ‘ Luke 18:19
Algebra strikes again.
‘They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what was spoken.’ Luke 18:34
Don’t let the spiritual be hidden from you. Deuteronomy 29:29.
